A peek of our trip

It has taken me a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things. So sorry for the delay in posting picutures. I realized today that I really did not take many because we were so busy doing things. The highlights were of course seeing my grandparents, the alligator farm, and getting drinks at Sonic everyday. (I am a HUGE sucker for pebble ice!!)

Here are a few pictures.

Claire loved the pigmy goats

It was a great and cultural experience for the kids. I think the spider bite was the highlight of the trip. At least that is what the kiddos keep talking about. We really loved see the greandparents and of course….going to SONIC for happy hour was a daily event. For all yall who have Sonic….you are more blessed than you know!!!

Basque Student in the house!!!!

Last year, we had the opportunity to get involved with the organization Summer in the USA. This program pairs Basques students with Christian family for a month. While here they attend a Young Life Camp and are immersed in english speaking homes. It is a very special time for our family and we have been looking forward to hosting another student all year.

This year our students name is Ania and she is a very sweet girl. She is completely immersed in English because my children do not stop speaking her! I am afraid that we are overwhelming her with questions and actvities! Her first day here we introduced her to one of my favorite things…Coke Icees!! Her second day we took her to church and threw a deck party for 50+ people and yesterday we took her to Multhnoma Falls. We all walked the 2.5 uphill hike …she was a trooper and so were ther kids! Afterward we drove down to Hood River for lunch and to grab milkshakes.

A Camping we will go….

us1.jpg Trevis grew up in eastern Oregon. So naturally he is a bonifide outdoorsman. And anything to do with being outdoors makes him happy. Well, it so happens that I love making my husband happy. So when he said he wanted to go camping…A camping we would go. We asked our new friends Mike and Cari and their kiddos Skylar (6) and Trinity (5) and 2 dogs to go along. We thought it would be a neat way to get to know them better and they are a TON OF FUN!! (You have to be fun to enjoy 4 days, with 5 children, no showers and 2 dogs.) Because it was Memorial day weekend Trev’s parents (who live 30 mins from the camp site) went out early Thrusday to find us a great camping spot on the Crooked River in the high desert mountains of Oregon!

Ok, before we proceed..now would be a goodtime to inform yall that I am not exactly a “camper kinda girl”. Yes, I am from the south.. and I know that there are rumors that we all ride alligators to work. In fact, a few of yall even think Adam Sandlers movie, The Water Boy, is a documentary. But rest assured these are merely gross exaggerations of a very refined culture!! Anyway—the only other time I have camped with my 3 children, ummm…..we lasted one night. So, I was nervous to say the least!

Knowing this meant a great deal to Trevis and the kids, I asked a few prayer warriors to pray for me. I especially wanted to relax and enjoy my children as they experienced Gods creation. I wanted to have real encouraging fellowship with Cari and Mike. I wanted to see and enjoy my husband in one of his favorite places and childhood activities. So… a camping we would go!!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!! It was a blast!! I could not have had a better time. The weather was great. The kids played well. Mike hung a flashlight from a tree. Cari (who was worried about camping with me) is afraid of bats. Trevis looks hot in camo!!! I actually ate a hotdog. We hiked to Chimney Rock. We ate smores. Trevis and I kicked bum playing Spades. We worshiped and had a 2 family church service. Don, Jan and Aunt Becky came out to visit. We all laughed and talked until late into the night. We caught no fish but we had a great time trying. A camping we will go again…..

As we returned home I could not help but think how wrong I had been about camping. How fun it was, how easy it was!! But then I remembered that I had people praying for me. I felt silly at asking for prayer over such a simple thing but then again…..was it so simple? I, all to often, think I should be able to handle the “simple” things and only ask people to pray for me when major thing happen. But God wants me to know Him, to experience His strength, to see His faithfulness in the “simple things”. So when the major things happen, I can remember & rest in who He is, how strong He is and how faithful He is.

Below are pictures from the trip. If you click on the little pic. you will see them a bit bigger!
